2007 The `D` in `VD,` and even if was still `DVD,` with Blue-Ray and HD-DVD, plain ol` DVD might not cut it. In fact, the way Diamond`s development has slowed, VD might soon be down to just `V,` or, failing that, `Betamax.` A first-round draft pick in 2004, he can launch his fastball up to 97 MPH when he has to, although he`s usually in the 92 to 94 range. He`s got a good changeup as well, but he`s struggled to find a breaking ball, and the whispers about a move to the bullpen are getting louder. That might not be the end of the world; with his velocity, Diamond has definite closer possibilities. Note the high walk rate; that may be the result of being forced to throw a curve whether he has a feel for it or not; a move to the bullpen would obviate the need for the pitch and the walk rate would (theoretically) come down. 2006 A gigantic right-handed power pitcher, Diamond lacks the smooth control of Danks, but he makes up for it with an otherworldly strikeout rate. He attended the University of New Orleans and missed a start late in the season to check on his family after Hurricane Katrina. He`s a bit older than Danks, but given the nature of pitching injuries, it`s safer to take the slightly older player if you want to bet on who`s going to have a major league career.
