2008 Dobbs has some legitimate value as a pinch-hitter, having hit .292/.350/.528 in 100 career pinch-hit plate appearances. He did fairly well pinch-hitting and spot starting in the first half of last year, but when Wes Helms proved once again that he's best suited to a bench role, Dobbs began to slip into the lineup more and more often. By season's end, Dobbs had started more games at third base (57) than either Helms (53) or Abraham Nu?ez (51), but he too was exposed as a starter, both offensively and defensively, and hit just .253/.339/.364 in the second half. Given the alternatives, the Phillies picked the right man. That was resourcefulness; going into the 2008 season with the same options is negligence. 2007 Cornerman Greg Dobbs`s qualifications for a major league job all come down to one thing: `Bats left-handed,` and not well enough at that. 2005 His promotion was a reward for the good year they thought he had in Tacoma. No, really, that's what they said. Dobbs is a defensively limited Bloomquist. Until they can look at these guys without cartoon hearts throbbing in their eyes, the organization's in trouble.
