Francisco Morales

Born: 10/27/1999 (Age: 20)
Bats: Right Throws: Right
Height: 6' 4" Weight: 185
Mechanics
Tall righty with a high-3/4 arm slot. Comes through late with the back leg and lands with a bit of violence in the foot strike. This creates deception and makes him hard to pick up, but also lends to consistency/repeatability issues.

Pitch Type Future Grade Sitting Velocity Peak Velocity Report
Fastball 60 94-96 97 Mid-90s from a pitching prospect seems almost rote now, but Morales throws it with consistency and riding life. He's been ticking up as a pro and he could certainly have a tick or two left given physical projectability, and perhaps more than that if he ends up airing it out in relief eventually.
Slider 60 85-89 89 Advanced true slider with tight two-plane break. Locates the pitch well. Far too much for most A-ball hitters. Current and future out pitch and on the borderline of projecting to plus-plus instead of plus.
Changeup 50 86-88 88 Flashed better than I expected based on past reports. It's got some dive to it, and works well in concert with the fastball in a similar velocity band. Not likely to develop into an out pitch, but as a third offering it gives him a chance to stick in the rotation.
Overall

Morales is something of the prototypical high variance 60 OFP arm. It's a big fastball/slider combination, and there's a case to throw a 7 on either (or both) of the pitches. Recent development of his change gives him a better chance to stay in the rotation, and he has the makings of a power closer type if he shifts to the bullpen.
