Episode 65: Kickety-Flip, Flippety-Kick

by Kevin Goldstein

Jason moved into his new place in Mexico City and discovered that his internet connection was well, kind of horrible. So no Jason this week as I'm joined by best friend of the podcast Jorge Arangure of ESPN as we talk about some September call ups, everything awful with the Dodgers and how things really work in the Dominican Republic (he should know, he's writing a book about it). Our special guest is Josh Boyd, the Director of Pro Scouting for the Texas Rangers, and our listener of the week selected tawdry photos for the glossy pages of Us Weekly. Then it's the goofy stuff, including a pop culture moment that brought me untold joy. As always, we hope you enjoy.

Note: We do alert you to the presence of the occasional adult language and subject matter. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Radish is a great vegetable, but it's pretty much one tool. Not versatile, but great at what it does. It's the Wily Mo Pena of vegetables.

Is it? It's kind of groundbreaking in a lot of ways, but it's still a band figuring things out.

'ATOMIZER' was an OK record. Having listened to most of that stuff for the first time in seven years yesterday, most of it is pretty embarrassing. I was sort of trying to figure out a way to weasel out of re-releasing it.

Atomizer is far and away my favorite Big Black record. They only other record I still reach for regularly is "Songs About..." But I discovered Atomizer first, and it hit me like a ball-peen hammer between the eyes. A really important record for me.

Since this is as good a place as any to ask: why not publish a top 100 prospects list every month, 12 months a year?

Because that wouldn't take ANY time at all to compile, and Kevin because isn't busy with, you know, other stuff.

Jorge's end around on the music question was pathetic. I will picture him listening to LFO deep album cuts while he hectors people on Twitter until proven otherwise.

HEARD THIS: Jorge likes girls who wear Abercrombie & Fitch. No word on whether or not Chinese food makes him sick.
