Sam - regarding data, there is no amount that will help a manager make a good one-time decision. To have meaning, the sample needs to be so large that a smart manager will not be able to realistically say that the talent level from end to end of the sample will be stable. To small, and the numbers are meaningless. Then again, we expect a manager to make decisions based on good analytics that include both statistics as well as performance scouting.

Did I just hear the Zapruder film referenced? It was a fun tie-in.

About scouting school-how much of player development do they teach? I thought an important aspect of scouting would be to recognize faults that are easy to correct vs faults that are hard to correct and document these for the organization (red flags).

In Moneyball, Lewis talked about how Beane-the scout-would focus on these skills Beane could never learn himself; such as plate discipline or Dystkra's ability to attack.
