Tool Future Grade Report
Hit 50 Above-average bat speed is the surprising quality here. He shows solid lower-half fire and gets to the zone with a short, quick stroke and simple mechanics. He's been caught between pitches at times and has to adjust his plate discipline and occasional over-aggressiveness to avoid getting stuck with a fringe hit future. Aptitude and a quick stroke are on his side.
Power 50 Above-average raw power. Gets to power from quick swing that produces above-average explosiveness and lift. Hit tool will limit to average in-game power but will produce consistent extra-base pop.
Baserunning/Speed 30 He's not a clog on the bases and is a good athlete for his stature and position, but he won't impact the run game.
Glove 55 This grade could end up on the low end if he progresses beyond expectations. The position comes naturally to him with leadership qualities, instincts, agility behind the plate and a feel to receive. He has a soft mitt and quiet body that receives well. He's an athlete for the position with quick actions and good shifting ability on pitches in the dirt.
Arm 60 Consistent plus arm that flashes 70 pop times. This is his carrying tool and will be one of the biggest weapons on the field every time he plays. He has quick footwork to support at least a plus arm and his throws are accurate. He can control a run game with this tool.
Overall

Langeliers is a definite defense-first catcher with at least above-average defense and a plus arm, flashing higher for both. There's a reason he was considered the top defensive catcher in his draft class. That part of his game is basically ready now. His hit tool remains the question. He has the swing mechanics to produce consistent contact and the strength and quick stroke to tap into above-average raw power. The question is how high the hit tool will go based on his eye. An average hit is a real possibility because of his feel and swing. The tools are there to be a major-league starter behind the plate with impact defense and enough hit.
