| Windup into a small leg kick to a medium stride before the hips fire and his core collapses towards first base, shoulders at a 45 degree angle. He decelerates well with the lower half as his upper body's momentum is moving towards home plate with some rotation around the pivot foot. Clean arm action from a three-quarters arm slot. |

Phillips mixes both fastballs with a plus changeup in order to keep hitters off balance and swing over changeups below the zone or roll over on two-seamers low in the zone. He also mixes in a breaking ball that he can locate low in the zone or drop below the zone to get ground balls and the occasional whiff. Phillips is a strike thrower with current below-average command in the zone, but his athleticism and clean arm should allow it to tick up to average with maturity and experience.
If Phillips is unable to improve said command, he may be better suited to spot starts or long relief on first division teams. If he can improve the command beyond that, he could fit into a no. 4 rotation spot on a first division team.
