Works with a high leg kick on the windup, hands start at the waist before coming up on release. Comes with a 3/4 arm slot, decent amount of deception keeping the hands close to the body until release.

Pitch Type Future Grade Sitting Velocity Peak Velocity Report
FB 55 91-93 94 Not a lot of movement on the fastball, shows slight glove side if any. Inconsistent command; hasn't shown the ability to improve it over time when bad to start a game. Misses more in zone than out of zone.
CH 60 82-84 85 Best pitch. Has sink, gets swings and misses both inside zone and out. Unafraid to use in any count against any hitter. Even when FB command is missing, usually has CH command to work out of trouble.
CV 55 79-81 82 Big curve, works backdoor to lefties. Improves with reps, becoming weapon against hitters 2nd and 3rd times through order. Flashes plus at times, will fool hitters for strikes looking but isn't generating consistent swings and misses as of yet.
Overall

Tyler Phillips is a big righty with three pitches. The breaking stuff are his best pitches, with Phillips consistently able to get strikes both swinging with his changeup and looking with the cruve. The fastball velocity is fine, but his command of the pitch is erratic often leading to contact in the zone resulting in hits.

As is, Phillips is a back-end starter who can eat innings without a high strikeout rate. There's plenty of growth as a pitcher left in Phillips, be it improved fastball command and/or adding a pitch that moves horizontally to compliment his current two breaking pitches. There's no rush for the 21-year-old, who already exceeded expectations with his jump to Frisco.
