For All You Kids Out There

In May 2016, Jeffrey Paternostro and Jarrett Seidler recorded a three-hour, rambling podcast about the first month of Mets baseball and an improbable Bartolo Colon home run. Thus, For All You Kids Out There, an overly intellectual, late night cocktail lounge conversation between two lifelong Mets fans was born. With thirteen years of prospect writing (and sixty years of pulling out hair out watching Mets baseball) combined, we cover everything from the low minors to the majors, trades and free agent signings, and other assorted weird Metropolitan ephemera.

Episode 58: "Six-star podcast"

June 12th, 2017

In Episode 58 of For All You Kids Out There, Jeffrey had a long day at the park and a long drive back so he allows Jarrett to do the heavy lifting. Jarrett has been mad online about the Mets this week, and hoo boy does he extrapolate on why in the first half of the show. We also discuss prospects we have seen recently and spend two minutes previewing Monday night’s draft.

In the second half of the show we are joined by Kate Morrison to supposedly talk about the Rangers, but mostly end up talking about the Cubs, we guess? Oh, and Brewers prospects.

In the third half of the show we answer your correspondence and spend roughly forty minutes discussing Kenny Omega vs Kachuzika Okada and its wider implications.

Episode 57: "What am I doing here in this endless winter?"

June 5th, 2017

In Episode 57 of For All You Kids Out There, a simple question from one host to another ends up with Jarrett trying to trade every Met. We also chat about Wilmer Flores, the 2012 draft, and the Mets bullpen…again. In the second half of the show, David Roth of Vice Sports is here to make sure the show fully goes off the rails, and we wrap up with your Facebook questions and a description of two very long wrestling shows.

Episode

Episode 56: "There’s indifference on the wind, but a faint gust of hope"

May 30th, 2017

In Episode 56 of For All You Kids Out There, Jeffrey takes a call from “Jarrett on the car phone” on his way back from seeing the 17th best prospect in baseball, and we discuss Terry Collins’ circle of trust, Tyler Pill’s debut, where the Mets are and where they are going, Bryce Harper’s helmet toss, and Mike Trout’s thumb. Then we take your e-mails on Raphael Ramirez and Andrew McCutchen and your Facebook queries mostly about Michael Conforto.

Episode

Episode 55: "A marathon runner, my ankles are sprained"

May 23rd, 2017

In Episode 55 of For All You Kids Out There, Jeffrey and Jarrett catch up with some of the Mets we haven’t discussed so far in the 2017 season. We have discussed the rotation a lot, but we will be doing it again. We also have the briefest This Week in Matt Harvey ever and chat about Mike Trout.

In the second half of the show, we are joined by Craig Goldstein to check in on the machinations in the minors, contemplate Gleybermania, and swoon about Juan Soto. Plus, Craig talks about tango.

In the third half of the show we answer your correspondence, and end up spending a half hour talking about Backlash after Jeffrey said we weren’t going to talk about Backlash in our last episode.

Episode 54: "I don’t even care if they cancel the Mets / That’s wild"

May 19th, 2017

In Episode 54 of For All You Kids Out There, Jeffrey and Jarrett have another disappointing week fo Mets baseball to cover. This is nominally a Mets podcast though, so while there is a whole bunch of Phillies prospect talk again, we do find time to discuss Jeurys Familia’s injury, other Mets bullpen woes, the emergence of Michael Conforto, the struggles of Curtis Granderson, the winter of Terry Collins, and almost the entire Columbia Fireflies roster.

In the second half of the show, we chat with Meg Rowley of Baseball Prospectus about the Mariners, Pitch, and preview the FOX Fall TV upfronts.

In the third half of the show, we answer your e-mails and sort of preview of a wrestling pay-per-view we were vaguely aware was occurring.

Episode 53: "In the Shadow of Two Aces"

May 7th, 2017

In Episode 53 of For All You Kids Out There it sure feels like a lot longer than a week since we last recorded a podcast. It’s only been a week though, and we know this because in the first half of the show we go day-by-day through the last week in Flushing. It’s been…busy. On the agenda is Syndergaard’s lat, Gsellman’s struggles, very good prospects (not Mets), very good prospects (a certain potential Mets shortstop), not-a-victory-lap about Paul Sewald, definitely not-a-victory-lap about Paul Sewald, somebody on the Mets’ martial aid, and of course…This Week in Matt Harvey.

In the second half of the show we are joined by Matthew Callan, author of Yells for Ourselves to discuss his book about the 1999-2000 Mets squads. We break down the Mike Piazza trade, spend almost as time on the Mike Bordick trade, and even more time on 20th century atonal opera.

In the third half of the show we answer your correspondence, and there is a lot of it so the pro wrestling segment is actually pretty brief, we promise.

To pre-order Matt’s excellent book (which we both unreservedly recommend, go to https://www.inkshares.com/books/yells-for-ourselves-1ef7e5.

Episode 52: "40 Hours in Flushing"

April 30th, 2017

In Episode 52 of For All You Kids Out There we are live from pork roll country–or is it Taylor Ham? Jeffrey can never remember. Anywho, Jeffrey and Jarrett are here in Jarrett’s apartment to go over a weird week in Metsland. We will break down the Mets injury communications as every Met is, uh, breaking down. One Met who is not breaking down is Michael Conforto. It’s almost like he’s an emerging superstar when not dealing with a wrist injury. We also discuss Andres Gimenez’s surprise promotion to Columbia and the dire state of the Mets bullpen…again.

In the second half of the show we chat about the Lakewood/Kannapolis game we saw on Saturday and both of us wax poetic about Daniel Brito.

In the third half of the show we answer your e-mail and wrap up with the usual wrestling chat. It’s a normal length podcast–well probably still 20 minutes too long–but either way, don’t get used to it.

Episode 51: [screaming internally]

April 25th, 2017

In Episode 51 of For All You Kids Out There, Jeffrey and Jarrett sit back, relax and…oh there goes Jarrett on another rant again, never mind. It hasn’t been a great week in Panic City, and we break down the injury problems, the roster problems, the bullpen problems and the Michael Conforto prob…well, it isn’t a problem yet, but give it another week. We also wonder if Amed Rosario is ready for the big leagues (SPOILER: probably).

In the second half of the show we are joined by David Roth of Vice Sports to talk Atlantic League rosters, the 2007 Cy Young Award voting, Eric Thames, Wade LeBlanc, and the segment ends with our just reading out the names of KBO players.

In the third half of the show, we answer your correspondence, discuss A-ball pitchers, and Jarrett reports in from a New Jersey wrestling show.

Episode

Episode 49: "First Week/Last Week…Carefree"

April 10th, 2017

In Episode 49 of For All You Kids Out There, the Mets are under .500 (at the time of recording), is it time to panic yet? We go over the first week storylines, Jarrett has a better rant in-between live (at the time or recording) golf updates, and there’s another week of This Week in Matt Harvey. In the second half of the show, we are continuing the tradition of doing a rando Phillies segment in April, and we invite on “the smartest guy out there,” Matt Winkleman of Crashburn Alley to talk about the Lakewood Blue Claws and other assorted Phillies prospects. Then in the third half of the show, we answer your correspondence and discuss the upcoming shakeup on WWE TV.

Episode

Episode

Episode 46: "The plural of mediocrity"

March 19th, 2017

In Episode 46 of For All You Kids Out There, Jeffrey and Jarrett don’t have much to talk about. Jeffrey even says as much a minute into the show. Three hours later, it’s actually over. Over the Andrei Rubalev running time, we talk about Yoenis Cespedes’s first column, recap another week in Matt Harvey, discuss the WBC forever again, preview the 2017 Mets bullpen with old friend Chris McShane, answer your emails on Tim Tebow, end up on the Yankees Roster Resource page for some reason, and preview Wrestlemania 33 with another old friend, Tom Holzerman.

Episode

Episode 45: "The labors of Confortocles"

March 12th, 2017

In Episode 45 of For All You Kids Out There, Jeffrey and Jarrett go in with no agenda and already running behind schedule because the angry Oriole bird threw up the Gabby Ynoa twitter bat signal right before we started. So we discuss Ynoa’s outing, Keith Hernandez’s eating habits, Spring Training cuts, and the first few WBC games.

In the second half of the show, we are joined by Tim Finnegan of Baseball Prospectus to preview the 2017 Mets starting pitching. So it’s time for another round of This Week in Matt Harvey, Tim offers some thoughts on seeing Zack Wheeler’s Spring debut live, we debate de Grom versus Syndergaard, and of course Robert Gsellman comes up.

In the third half of the show we have no correspondence, so you instead have to suffer through our submission for Tom Holzerman’s Wrestling Blog 100. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Episode 44: "Luis Guillorme bat catch dot gif"

March 5th, 2017

In Episode 44 of For All You Kids Out There, Jeffrey and Jarrett achieve peak #brand. Luis Guillorme had a heckuva week, There is more Jay Bruce talk. Jarrett spends twenty minutes talking about the WBC. This week in Matt Harvey is back! Most of the 2017 Mets infield preview with our EIC Bryan Grosnick is spent talking about the Padres Roster Resource page. There is also obscure Mets minor leaguer talk, and Jeffrey drinks too much sake and reads out his grocery store receipt and yells about the Dragon Gate dudes on (or off) this year’s WON Awards results. Like we said, the #brand is strong, you guys.
