Sabermetrics, Scouting, and the Science of Baseball

by Dan Brooks

Sabermetrics, Scouting, and the Science of Baseball, a weekend seminar for the benefit of the Jimmy Fund, puts you up close with some of baseball’s top coaches, statisticians, scouts, doctors, and scientists. The seminar takes place on August 4 and 5, 2012 in Boston, MA, and is limited to 200 of baseball’s best fans.

Register now so you can join us on August 4 and 5, 2012 at Boston University’s Metcalf Science Center and enjoy the edge that professional scouting, science, and sabermetrics will give you at your next fantasy or real-life baseball game.

During this event, you will grasp how science is blended with advanced baseball statistics and traditional scouting assessments to produce outstanding results for teams. Don’t miss this special opportunity to learn about the deeper game of baseball from insiders and pros, meet people who love the game, and help the Jimmy Fund.

You will enjoy presentations and panel discussions with the manager of the Boston Red Sox, Bobby Valentine, team Bench Coach, Tim Bogar, Director of Professional Scouting, Jared Porter,  BrooksBaseball.net creator, Dr. Daniel Brooks, baseball physicist, Dr. Alan Nathan, Baseball Prospectus and ESPN national baseball writer Kevin Goldstein, and many more including world renowned neurologists, physicists, sports medicine physicians, professional sabermetricians, professors, journalists, writers, and other baseball enthusiasts.

Register now: Tickets for the weekend seminar are $125, with a discounted pass of $65 available to full time students, with all proceeds from the event going to the Jimmy Fund. Help cure cancer while talking baseball with some of its top minds!

We are proud to announce that every one of the speakers at this event (who are not only incredible baseball resources, but are also amazingly altruistic) are donating their time to participate in this seminar. Boston University’s Center for Neuroscience and Department of Physics  graciously sponsored our event, and volunteers have helped with this website, the program, and snacks and drinks. This means that every penny earned during this baseball weekend will go directly to the Jimmy Fund. The organizers of this baseball weekend would like to express their gratitude to everyone who helped make this event possible.

I went last year, outstanding stuff. I highly recommend attending the event. The speakers are informative, interesting, and accessible for discussion during breaks. It's well worth the money and it all goes to the Jimmy Fund.

You also have a bit of flexibility with where you look for a hotel. The science center is a few blocks from Kenmore Square so you can take catch the T right there. That'll free you up to find hotels near the green line.
