About two weeks ago, I did a six-minute hit on a Chicago-based CBS television morning show called “Monsters And Money.” I thought the hit went well (you can see the video here), and the producers told me after that they were happy with it and would love to have me on again.
Those producers called me this morning, and while I was expecting an invitation for another brief appearance, something very different happened instead. The producers informed me that the show was canceled (more details here), and I told them I was sorry to hear that and really enjoyed working with them. They then informed me that there were still two weeks of shows to produce, and that the hosts of the show, long-time local radio sports guys Dan Jiggets and Mike North, had taken their accrued vacation and left the production.
So what does this mean for me? Well, either the producers really did like me, or they are really desperate to fill in these next two weeks, or some combination of both. Nonetheless, on Tuesday morning (that's tomorrow), I'll be co-hosting the CBS 2 Chicago morning show from 5-7 am. Not doing a quick hit mind you, but actually doing two hours of live television at an hour normally reserved for my sleep. So sports, news and business with me, and luckily some more experienced professionals (ex-CNBC staffer Mike Hegedus will run the circus). If you are in the greater Chicago area, and get up that early (or hey, set your DVR), it just might be the best on-screen disaster since Albert Brooks' flop sweat in Broadcast News. For now, I'm gonna pack and rest, production meetings start at 4 a.m.
