Another day, another three-home run game. How boring!
How about some trots?!
Home Run of the Day: Carlos Quentin #3, Chicago White Sox – 21.98 seconds [video]
I hope it's obvious that I don't actually think a three home run game is boring. They're always something to see (I was at a Blue Jays/Red Sox game where Adam Lind hit three home runs – it was incredibly fun to see in person). I also enjoy the randomness of the players who have hit three home runs this year (all in the last two weeks): Carlos Beltran, Jason Giambi, Corey Hart, Jose Bautista, and now Quentin. It's one of those things that makes baseball great.
Slowest Trot: Carlos Gonzalez #1, Colorado Rockies – 25.34 seconds [video]
Quentin wasn't the only one player with a multi-home run day on Tuesday. Gonzalez, Alex Avila, and David DeJesus also had great days at the plate, but they managed only two home runs a piece. Gonzalez's first blast, a solo shot off the upper deck in right field, edged out Avila's first for the slowest trot of the day.
Quickest Trot: Brad Hawpe, San Diego Padres – 19.1 seconds [video]
This confused me when I couldn't find Hawpe's home run highlight in with the rest of the Rockies' highlights. It makes more sense now that I realize he 's on the Padres. Hawpe's quick trot beat out good trots from (actual Rockie) Seth Smith and Mike Stanton.
