It was a pretty full slate of games yesterday for a Monday. There were nine games played around the league, meaning 18 teams took the field. Only eight home runs were hit. And one of those was by a pitcher! It's a funny game.
How about some trots!
Home Run of the Day: Zach Duke, Arizona Diamondbacks – 23.11 seconds [video]
It's Duke's second home run of the year, and the second of his career. It also came in only Duke's fourth game of the year. Duke is currently hitting a home run every 3.5 at-bats this year. Pretty sure that puts him on pace for some kind of record.
Slowest Trot: Zach Duke, Arizona Diamondbacks – 23.11 seconds [video]
Duke's first home run came on May 28, when he clocked in at 24.11 seconds. In that time, he's knocked a full second off his trot. Duke was only a bit slower than Atlanta's Jordan Schafer, who came in with the second-slowest trot at 22.91 seconds.
Quickest Trot: Chris Heisey, Cincinnati Reds – 19.34 seconds [video]
It's always nice to see Heisey hit a home run, but, I have to admit, I was a little disappointed in his trot. It's probably unfair to expect 17-seconds every time, though. Hunter Pence came in with the only other sub-twenty second trot on Monday, but his home run is more notable for just how high he was choking up on that bat (video). It looked like he had never held a baseball bat before.
