Today we reveal the Baseball Prospectus staff predictions for the division standings and the major player awards (MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year) in the American and National Leagues. Each staff member's division standings predictions may be found later in the article. Here, we present a wisdom-of-the-crowds summary of the results. In each table you'll find the average rank of each team in their division with first-place votes in parentheses, plus the results of our pre-season MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year voting.
For the MVP voting, we've slightly amended the traditional points system in place that has been used elsewhere, dropping fourth- and fifth-place votes to make it 10-7-5 for the MVP Award, and the regular 5-3-1 for the Cy Young and Rookie of the Year Awards (that's 5 points for a first-place vote, 3 points for a second-place vote, etc.).

In the meantime, it looks like the class of the American League is firmly in the AL West.
Kendrys Morales should have gotten some attention too in the MVP race, even though he's just going to be a DH. He will put up a season like his last full year which got hom some MVP votes.
On the Nats generally, I see about half the writers placed them fourth, and about half second or third. Any of those can be reasonably asserted, but I would really like to know why Messrs. McQuown and Wojciechowski believe the Nationals will finish last.

"If we're lucky enough and improved enough to be playing meaningful games in September and [Strasburg's] pitch limits are up, just like Jordan Zimmermann this year, he will be done. We'll sit with our plan and we'll stick to it. If I'm the general manager here at that time, we'll certainly put the pitch and innings limit on him and we'll probably have our internal discussions and arguments, but at the end of the day just like Jordan Zimmermann this year, we're going to stay true to the plan and we'll have to find ways to replace him in our rotation." So again, maybe not a hard cap of 160, but the organization seems committed to making sure Strasburg isn't overworked.
Easy to say when you're in March and definitely leaves wiggle room.
On the other hand, I'm bullish about all three Mets outfielders, especially Duda, and Ike Davis at first base. And even their weaker offensive players draw some walks (Thole and Tejeda), so I think the Mets will have a good team on-base. I think Francisco is a very good answer at closer, and if Johan recaptures some of his past performance, their rotation isn't awful. Of course, if Santana breaks down or suffers from post-injury badness, the pitching could become a nightmare with the new more-hitter-friendly fences. I certainly wouldn't bank on the Mets being good, but I think they finally know what they are doing organizationally, and that counts for a lot - I expect reactions to in-season problems to be a strong suit now, as opposed to problems causing the season to unravel.
That said, I do think Cueto's on the verge of a breakout.
