I don't know why, but for some reason I thought that yesterday was a light day for home runs across the league. It turns out instead that there were 39 homers hit on the day (with twelve coming from just two games). That's a pretty busy day.
Let's get right to the trots!
Home Run of the Day: Billy Butler, Kansas City Royales – 23.52 seconds [video]
A walkoff blast for Country Breakfast. Somewhere, Robinson Cano is wondering why Butler was even batting there.
Slowest Trot: Chipper Jones, Atlanta Braves – 26.27 seconds [video]
The Braves and their fans gave Melky Cabrera a lot of grief for his antics in Wednesday's game. Chipper even had some words for Cabrera after the game. Some of the complaints from fans focused on Cabrera's slow home run trot (for example). It was Chipper, however, who ended up with the slowest trot of the day, a full 1.5 seconds slower than Cabrera's.
Quickest Trot: Brandon Hicks, Oakland Athletics – 19.1 seconds [video]
A walkoff home run for his first career homer? And it was the quickest trot of the day? Not too shabby, Mr. Hicks.
