Let's not waste any time and go straight to the trots!
Home Run of the Day: Giancarlo Stanton, Miami Marlins – 21.87 seconds [video]
494 feet. The longest home run in Major League Baseball since the immortal Wladimir Balentien in 2009. Stanton has hit a home run in all five games he has played in Coors Field in his career.
The list just goes on. Giancarlo Stanton is a beast. (Also, does anyone actually believe that all the "500-foot home runs" we saw in the late-1990s were actually 500 feet? I don't think I do.)
I can't fail to mention Chipper Jones, who hit two home runs on Thursday and another homer on Friday. And this guy is retiring?
Slowest Trot: Billy Butler, Kansas City Royals – 25.78 seconds [video]
It wasn't Giancarlo's 494-foot shot, but the bat speed on Butler's shot was a sight to see. Shades of Gary Sheffield. Butler edges out Tampa Bay's Jose Molina and Los Angeles' Andre Ethier for the slowest trot of the night.
Carlos Lee, who is looking a bit out of the 1980s Pedro Guerrero mold these days, had the slowest trot Thursday night at 26.69 seconds.
Quickest Trot: Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals – 17.83 seconds [video]
Friday was a good day for quick trots. Curtis Granderson sprinted through the rain in New York in 18.58 seconds on his trot, Lorenzo Cain did him one better in Kansas City with an 18.34 second trot, and BJ Upton topped them both with his 18.11 second trek. None of them were good enough for the top spot, however, thanks to a slight return to form from Bryce Harper. The 17.83 second trot from Harper is his fastest since his initial outburst in early June.
