In light of Kevin Towers’ desire for a grittier team after trading Justin Upton, here’s the Diamondbacks projected roster ranked by grittiness. These are correct, so don’t bother leaving comments.

  1. Eric Hinske
  2. Cody Ross
  3. Martin Prado
  4. John McDonald
  5. Aaron Hill
  6. Cliff Pennington
  7. Gerardo Parra
  8. Eric Chavez
  9. Jason Kubel
  10. Wil Nieves
  11. Paul Goldschmidt
  12. Miguel Montero
  13. Adam Eaton

That’s all. Pitchers can’t be gritty. They can only be gamers.

I'm not questioning the correctness of this list, but I'm curious: what factors keep 5'10" white guy SS with 84 career OPS+ Cliff Pennington from the number 1 position?

How can Eric Chavez be on this list? He got hurt once while not running into a wall. That's immediate expulsion from any grit-list.

Who knew that the 2006 Blue Jays were the model for grittiness? Has Kevin Towers been in touch with Shea Hillenbrand?

Then why didn't Chtis Young pass muster after he came back too soon after running into OF wall ? Is it because he used up sick leave time instead of taking a vacation day while he was on the DL ?

Don't forget, catcher Tuffy Gosewisch has a Spring Training NRI, though I'm not sure if Tuffy = Gritty.
