- Rockies RP Rex Brothers will serve as the Rockies' fill-in closer while Rafael Betancourt (appendicitis) is sidelined.
- The Star-Telegram's Jeff Wilson says the Rangers and Cubs haven't made any progress on a Cubs SP Matt Garza deal in the last 24 hours.
- The Indians declined to part with 3B Lonnie Chisenhall in return for the Cubs' SP Matt Garza, according to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
- Red Sox SP Jon Lester will not make his scheduled start Sunday against the Yankees.
- ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that trade talks involving Astros SP Bud Norris "have been heating up" since the All-Star break.
- ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Giants and Rockies are among the teams that have discussed a trade for White Sox SP Jake Peavy.
