Director, Baseball Data Infrastructure – Detroit Tigers

JOB SUMMARY:
The Detroit Tigers are currently seeking a Director, Baseball Data Infrastructure. This role will be responsible for leading all internal data and infrastructure initiatives within Baseball Operations. This position will report to the Vice President and Assistant General Manager, Baseball Operations.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.     Lead the data team and data infrastructure initiatives within Baseball Operations.
2.     Manage the consumption, storage, and maintenance of all baseball data.
3.     Make strategic decisions on data acquisition, storage technologies, policies and procedures, and quality assurance.
4.     Oversee the integration of data into all baseball analytics and software systems.
5.     Maintain expertise in modern data management techniques within the fast-paced baseball technology landscape.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1.     5+ years of relevant work experience including successful project management and team leadership.
2.     Proven ability to make technology infrastructure decisions for an organization.
3.     Understanding of modern data engineering and application of best practices.
4.     Expertise with large-scale relational databases, data modeling, and SQL.
5.     Experience building data warehouses for data science and analytics.
6.     Ability to build high-performance data pipelines which maintain data quality.
7.     Familiarity with cloud storage, cloud computing, and cloud services.
8.     Experience with at least one common programming language such as Java, Python, or C#.
9.     Passion for baseball and robust understanding of current baseball research.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
1.     Experience in sports industry and/or working with sports data.
2.     Familiarity with the baseball tech industry including third-party vendors and services.
3.     Experience with NoSQL storage technologies and considerations.
4.     Understanding of stream processing, messaging systems, or other real-time data workflows.
5.     Familiarity with software tools for data orchestration and/or workflow management.
6.     Experience working with high-fidelity sensor or tracking data sets.

Full-Stack Software Engineer, Baseball Operations – Detroit Tigers (Multiple)

JOB SUMMARY:
The Detroit Tigers are currently seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer. This role will be responsible for development and maintenance of software projects within Baseball Operations. This position will report to the Director of Baseball Systems.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.     Perform development and maintenance on internal software products.
2.     Utilize modern software techniques and best practices in all parts of the software lifecycle.
3.     Support the integration of baseball analysis into our proprietary tools and applications.
4.     Assist with the design and development of new software products.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1.     BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent experience.

4.     Experience working with large-scale relational databases using SQL.

Biomechanist, Performance Science – Detroit Tigers

JOB SUMMARY:
The Detroit Tigers are currently seeking a full-time Biomechanist in the Performance Science Department.  This role will assist with the delivery of performance science solutions within Baseball Operations. The biomechanist will be responsible for translating biomechanical data into applied, actionable outcomes to be used by staffs to optimize performance.  This role will work closely Baseball Analytics, Player Development, Strength and Conditioning, and Sports Medicine.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.     Collect, analyze, and report on data from various sources, including in-game biomechanical data.
2.     Maintain data quality and integrity for all biomechanical data.
3.     Collaborate with coaching staffs and external consultants to design and develop metrics and reports aimed at maximizing player performance.
4.     Work closely with the Director, Performance Science to develop and disseminate information from performance science initiatives.
5.     Assist with data management, organization, and integration into the organization’s athlete management system.
6.     Assist with implementation and maintenance of existing performance science initiatives across the organization, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
7.     Assist with the design, development, testing and support of new performance science initiatives.
8.     Effectively collaborate and communicate with player development, coaching, sports medicine, strength and conditioning and front office staff.
9.     Review research and technology updates relevant to baseball performance.
10.  Perform exploratory performance science research projects and analysis as directed.
11.  Assist with the maintenance, calibration, and upkeep of performance science related equipment.
12.  Other duties as directed by Director, Performance Science
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1.     A graduate level degree or 3+ years of experience in biomechanics or performance science is required.
2.     Demonstrated experience with the following technologies preferred: Force plates, IMUs, motion capture, GPS tracking.
3.     Demonstrated experience with modeling and analyzing 3D motion capture data required. Experience with OpenSim a plus.
4.     Research or applied experience in professional sport strongly preferred.
5.     Experience using an athlete management system.
6.     The ideal candidate must have excellent computer skills. Proficiency in R highly desirable.
7.     The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills. Candidate must be able to convey complex performance science findings to relevant staffs.
8.     The ideal candidate must have excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Coordinator, Performance Science – Detroit Tigers

JOB SUMMARY:
The Coordinator, Performance Science will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Performance Science technologies.  This role will work closely with Baseball Analytics, Baseball Performance, Player Development and Coaching Staffs in order to optimize technology usage, understanding and feedback.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.     Responsible for Hawkeye and TrackMan day-to-day operations management, including the staffing and oversight of Operators.
 2.     Central point of contact for all Performance Science hardware technologies, with the responsibility of ensuring data quality and supporting user needs.
 3.     Work closely with third-party technology providers to address and resolve issues.
 4.     Collaborate with Analytics to disseminate and formulate reports and analysis.
 5.     Support Coaching Staff with internal education of analytics and performance science technologies.
 6.     Collaborate with Baseball Performance to collect, analyze and report on performance science data sources for performance and injury risk assessments.
 7.     Collaborate with Minor League Video Operations, as necessary.
 8.     Complete ad-hoc database queries and analysis as requested by PD Staff.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1.     The ideal candidate must have excellent knowledge of general baseball concepts; prior playing experience preferred.
2.     Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Degree or coursework in sport science, kinesiology, biomechanics, motor learning, mathematics, statistics, or related field is desired.
3.     Demonstrated experience with performance science technologies and data collection processes preferred.  Examples include but are not limited to:  Hawk-Eye, TrackMan, Rapsodo, Blast Motion, force plates, and markered or markerless motion capture.
 4.     The ideal candidate must have excellent computer skills, including proficiency in R/Python and Microsoft Excel; SQL and relational database proficiency preferred.

5.     Support the current data warehousing process within Baseball Operations.
