Minor League Assistant ATC Coordinator/Latin American ATC Coordinator

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Boston Red Sox are seeking a Minor League Assistant Athletic Training Coordinator for the 2022 season. The Minor League Assistant ATC Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the Director, Sports Medicine Services and Minor League Athletic Training Coordinator. This role will also oversee medical operations at the Dominican Academy while seeking opportunities to improve in all aspects.

Through leadership and effective management skill, the Minor League Assistant ATC Coordinator will help support the oversight and daily operations of the minor league medical department. Ensure the safety, health, and performance of minor league players at the Complex and Academy by encouraging superior strength and conditioning, sound diagnostic decision-making, and effective rehab protocols, while supporting and promoting the tenets of the department and organization. At the Academy, also serve as information hub on injury information and coordinate, manage, and educate DR medical staff to ensure the safety, health, and performance of all minor league players.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote a safe, proactive, trusting environment within the Fort Myers complex and Dominican Academy as they address their medical needs
  • Provide operations – from the Dominican Academy up into Boston – that run parallel to one another regarding medical care and operations
  • Provide preventative care, evaluate, treat, and help rehabilitate (short-term) injuries to all Red Sox players on the Complex League roster and oversee such at the Academy
  • In conjunction with DSL ATC’s, oversee care of all active Dominican Summer League players, tryout players participating at the Dominican Academy, newly signed players working out at the Dominican Academy
  • Coordinate all necessary local physician examinations and follow-ups for FCL/Academy players along with the FCL ATC and DSL ATC, as well as any other players throughout the organization as needed
  • Consistent communication with Director, Player Development, Director, International Scouting, Field Coordinator, and Head Minor League Medical Coordinator about the health of the DSL players, including but not limited to; new and old injuries, participation limitations, and medical concerns and follow-ups
  • Daily input of medical data into The Boston Red Sox medical/injury tracking system as needed
  • Assist the Director, Player Development and Minor League ATC Coordinator with Minor League ATC staffing decisions, evaluation and performance reviews
  • Additional duties as assigned by Director, Player Development and Minor League ATC Coordinator

CHARACTERISTICS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • National Athletic Trainer’s Association – Board of Certification in good standing required
  • Eligible and in good standing for Florida State Licensure required
  • CPR/AED Certified and First Aid required
  • Willingness to learn, travel, and work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment while being open-minded and willing to grow
  • Prior experience treating patients in collegiate sports, professional sports or elite athletes
  • Spanish fluency strongly preferred

LOCATION/TRAVEL:

  • Fort Myers based position
  • Trips to affiliates as assigned by Minor League ATC Coordinator
  • 5-6 yearly trips to Latin America including but not limited to, DSL Early Report/Spring Training/Regular Season, International Signing Period, Dominican Instructional League and Winter Programs
  • Representation at any events and meetings deemed appropriate by the Club. Additional travel as assigned by Director, Player Development; Minor League Rehab Coordinator

Manager, MiLB Performance Development

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Boston Red Sox are seeking a full time position of Manager, Minor League Performance Development for the 2022 season, based in Fort Myers, FL. The Manager, MiLB Performance Development will work under the direct supervision of the Director, Sports Medicine Services and Director, Player Development.

This role is player development focused, leading a diverse group of sports performance professionals, cultivating a culture of communication, collaboration and curiosity while working closely with on-field coaching leadership.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cultivate an environment of collaboration, growth and improvement, helping departmental leaders establish interdisciplinary protocols.
  • Audit all performance group areas to identify gaps in communication, collaboration and information transfer.
  • o Creatively seek out methods to address findings, including communication pathways, techniques or technology. 
  • Oversee the continued objectification of medical and performance protocols across departments.
  • Monitor player programming and testing across the organization, working with department heads to ensure proactive adjustment and improvement.
  • o Additionally, work closely with on-field leadership to ensure alignment of development goals on the field and in the performance space.
  • Oversee the evolution of practices and standards with cutting-edge initiatives, all focused on improving players’ physical performance and health, and related to individual on-field player goals.
  • Working with Sports Science team and department leaders, consistently vet trends, technologies and strategies within the sports industry. This includes but is not limited to visiting industry events, examining research and testing out products.
  • As it relates to performance development, oversee MiLB S/C, ATC, Rehab, Sports Science, Nutrition leadership and Mental Skills coaches in holistic communication and collaboration.
  • Alongside performance department leaders, build and maintain strategic industry partnerships that drive program and technology development. 
  • Work with performance team and on-field leadership to improve practice efficiency and scheduling.
  • Contribute to the development of departmental leaders both within and without candidate’s areas of expertise. 

CHARACTERISTICS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters or PhD level sports science, exercise science, biomechanics or related degree preferred. 
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred. 
  • Highly effective communication skills required, with working knowledge of baseball operations performance areas preferred. 
  • Experience in an elite or professional sport environment preferred.
  • Attention to detail while also having the ability to work quickly and balance multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills while utilizing large interdisciplinary data sets.

Assistant, Major League Strategic Information

BOSTON /BASEBALL OPERATIONS /FULL-TIME

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Boston Red Sox are seeking an Assistant for the team’s Major League Strategic Information (MLSI)department. The role is an office-based position that works closely with department leadership to provide support across all areas of the MLSI operation. These areas include but are not limited to administrative responsibilities, assisting the MLSI Analyst and Coordinator, and using all MLSI materials to help drive progress in the process of advance scouting and improving internal player production in support of the Major League staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and improve processes across all areas of the operation.
  • Organize, maintain and deliver MLSI materials to the ML coaching staff.
  • Run daily scripts to generate game-specific materials.
  • Remain up-to-date with league transactions so all materials include current rosters and daily lineups, including any last-minute changes prior to that day’s game.
  • Set up and operate technology that aids in player development (i.e. portable TrackMan) during bullpens and batting practice.
  • Assist the MLSI Analyst and Coordinator with advance scouting tasks.
  • Assist the ML Video Coordinator in the capture and distribution of game and practice video.
  • Attend pre-game and pre-series advance meetings with the ML coaching staff.
  • Email daily game recaps to the coaching staff, players and Front Office.
  • Generate one-off summary reports as requested from coaching staff or Front Office.

Characteristics/Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with modern database technologies including SQL.
  • Demonstrated experience with programming languages (e.g., R) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical ideas to non-technical audiences using data visualization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours is a must.

Dominican Republic Sports Science Assistant

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC /BASEBALL OPERATIONS /SEASONAL

POSITION OVERVIEW: As part of a diverse group of sports performance professionals, assist in management of sports science and sports performance initiatives in the Dominican Republic, including player tracking and physical assessment. Additionally, oversee administration of science systems and assist with research and implementation tasks across the sports performance group.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in execution of physical testing protocols while seeking more efficient, valid and reliable methodology.
  • Oversee DR -based daily workload tracking and related data management.
  • o This includes management of data tracking application.
  • Assist with monitoring protocols, testing administration, RPE collection, compiling and reporting at the DR Academy.
  • Work with international amateur scouting department at the DR academy and off-site.
  • Execute performance related tasks across medical, strength & conditioning, nutrition and behavioral health departments.
  • o Additional responsibility will be in the candidate’s specific areas of specialty, pending experiences of the candidate and as agreed upon. For example, S/C, sports medicine, nutrition, etc.
  • Assist in further objectification of medical and performance development protocols across departments, blending previous experience and current research.
  • Working with Sports Science Coordinator, seek out relevant research opportunities related to sports science and performance departments.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Sports Science Coordinator.

CHARACTERISTICS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree in sports science, exercise science, biomechanics or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience in Strength & Conditioning, Nutrition, Behavioral Health, Medical or other sports performance sciences viewed favorably.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required.
  • Experience in an elite or professional sport environment preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Attention to detail while also having the ability to work quickly and balance multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work evening, weekend and holiday hours is a must.
  • Experience working with Smartabase preferred.
  • Other programming and database skills are a plus.
